Fortuna Rodeo | Poster 2011It's not just the raging bulls and courageous cowhands; the Fortuna Rodeo is a week-long family festival with something for everyone. The rodeo committee works tirelessly to create fun activities that begin on Monday with a citywide chili cook off and end the following Sunday afternoon at the rodeo arena.

The good old days are still happening every year at the Fortuna Rodeo.Held in Fortuna since 1921, the Fortuna Rodeo has evolved into a fun-filled week of activities for the entire family that culminates in the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association (CCPRA) Finals.

President's Message:

“90 Years-The Legend Rides On” is this year’s theme for the Fortuna Rodeo, and it pretty much sums it up. For 90 years the Fortuna Rodeo has been the premier event in the Friendly City and this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. You won’t want to miss “Cowboy Kenny” this year, a specialty act that will make your head spin as he performs stunts and flips on his high flying motorcycle. Check out our web site for “Cowboy Kenny’s” video and a full schedule of events. As you will see, we have a week full of family friendly activities that everyone can enjoy.

This year’s Fortuna Rodeo Grand Marshall's are Roy and Laurada Curless. For 53 years Roy has been serving on the Fortuna Rodeo Board and for 29 of those years he was President. Roy has put in countless hours over the years for the good of the cause, and Laurada has been right there with him, keeping him in line. Be sure and thank them both for their service to the community when you see them during Rodeo Week, they have earned it.

Without the help of the City of Fortuna, Fortuna Chamber of Commerce and the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department it would not be possible to put this show on, but on it goes. Many hours of preparation and hard work behind the scenes goes into making the Fortuna Rodeo Week a success. It’s great to live in a city where everyone pitches in for such a great cause.

So I invite you to come on down July 11th thru the 17th for the 90th Fortuna Rodeo, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Happy Trails,

Shannon McWhorter, President
