Contestant entries are due by July 1st and can be picked up at Great Western Clothing Company in Eureka, Sequoia Gas Company in Fortuna and Arcata, and R&S Livestock Supply, 2028 Market Street in Ferndale. Even if the events are closed, youngsters are still encouraged to come out for the two-day extravaganza. The Fortuna Junior Roundup starts with the evening performance Thursday from 6 to 8 PM and finishes with a day performance Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. Admission for adults is $3.00 and $1.00 for seniors and kids ages 5-12. Kids ages 5 and under are free.

More than a decade has passed since its inception, and the Fortuna Junior Rodeo Roundup has developed into a premier event for youth in the community. The Junior Rodeo Roundup has been successful in attracting contestant participation locally, and even draws contestants from California's Central Valley. In 1999, the participation average was 0 contestants. Since that time the Roundup has had an average of more than 200 kids.

The Junior Rodeo Committee credits much of the success of this event to its sponsors. Local businesses, service groups, families, ranchers and dairymen have done an outstanding job. The committee wishes to thank all its sponsors for their dedication over the years. They make this an outstanding, fun-filled activity for all of the kids who participate and this event would not be possible without them. The committee also extends its gratitude to the many spectators and family members who come out to support the kids.
